* Tell us a little bit about your background (Name, background, etc,)
I go by Kaat Lanae. I’m a 21 year old single mother born & raised in Los Angeles, Ca, who wears many many hats lol :). But more specifically I’m really into the arts… fashion, music, & photography, to name a few. I do modeling for local brands & designers. I also am working on a kids clothing line, so be on the look out for that !!!!
•What are your reasons for going natural?
There are actually a few reasons why I went natural. It started out as me wanting a drastic change from wearing my hair dyed; it was green at the time. Then once I actually cut off all of my hair, it becane more about finding a more confident “me” & and living organically.
•How did you transition (or did you BC)?
I went cold turkey, I did the Big Chop.
•What emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
Confidence for the most part. Its hard trying to be confident in who and/or what you are while living in a society that doesn’t really accept it because of a lack of knowledge. But true confidence is a hard thing to deny and ignore, so once I started consciously working at it by accepting the beauty of my hair, (even though that sounds so cliche), in the rawest form, accepting other parts of yourself just kind of came naturally.
How do others respond to your hair?
People love it. I love it lol. Every now and then you come across a person who’ll says something slick or throws shade. But its actually amazing to receive admiration because of it from diverse crowds.
•What’s your go-to style?
Crochete weaves, Hands down. Its a protective style, very low maintanence, & it’s life changing LOL. It’s so convenient for me because I can juggle parenthood and of all my other endeavors without having to give to much thought to what I have to do my hair, which can be very time consuming when your hair is natural.
•What’s your favorite product and why?
I dont really have a favorite product per-say… Honestly, between my mother and I, we make our own products.
•What piece of advice would you share with someone who is just starting out?
Enjoy the process… It’s definitely an evolving experience, so be in it for the right reasons
•Who is your hair crush?
Ciprianna & TK Quann. They are absolutely amazing. They are very simple yet sophisticated, in my opinion, when it comes to the presentation of there hair.
