Tell us a little bit about your background
My name is Toronda Williams, I’m an Administrative Assistant but a fearless Entrepreneur at heart!
I own Fashion Assassins, a clothing boutique in Foley, AL. I’m the mother of 2.
What are your reasons for going natural?
The reason I chose to go natural was mainly because of the health of my hair. My hair has always grown with ease but the thickness of my hair seem to be diminishing. It was also brittle and shed drastically.
I didn’t do the big chop because I thought my head was too big for that (serious truth there). I transitioned with sew ins and braids and twists.
What emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
I didn’t experience any emotional struggles with my transition.
How do others respond to your hair?
It seems almost natural to go natural now. It’s everywhere. One of my co workers loves my hair. Her favorite style is my messy twist out and tells me not to wear it any other way. I have people inbox me via Facebook and ask me what do I use or what should they do to get started!
What’s your go-to style?
My go to style is what I call the pin up twist out. I serves all occasions; even when you want to wear a scarf to accent your hair.
My favorite product is Giovanni conditioner. I use it as a leave in and my hair loves it. It makes my hair more manageable and soft. My twist outs last longer.
What piece of advice would you share with someone who is just starting out?
My advice would be to just be you. What works for another may not work for you. Experiment and embrace your natural. It’s been so much fun for me. It requires work and patience but when you find that product that works it makes it all worth it.
Who is your hair crush?
My hair crush is Tracie Ellis Ross.
